Post Graduate Year – 3

The Post Graduate Year III consist following rotation:
  • 11 months outpatient adult psychiatry clinic
  • One-month vacation
The PGY –III year residents will spend 11 months in one of our adult outpatient psychiatry clinic either at Fulton division clinic or the Poe clinic.

Rotations: The rotation consists in working with outpatient adults. Most of the clinic patients are referred from the in-patient psychiatric unit, Grand Concourse divisions and the psychiatric emergency room (CPEP). Residents are supervised by the attending in the clinic. Each clinic has a case presentation every week. The Chairman of the Department meets with the residents once a week for supervision on an out patient case. Our clinic provides services to a diverse population with different cultures. Residents follow patients for psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. Our patients have variety of diagnosis and co-morbidities. The resident is supervised by the chief resident and the attending psychiatrist. Residents have the opportunity to run groups therapy sessions. Residents trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, individual, group, and family therapy, brief therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing. Didactic courses include theory and practice, including monthly "Mock Board" examinations to prepare residents for the board examination. In addition, the residents have protected supervision time with the attending for psychopharmacology as well as their psychotherapy supervisor.

Vacation: Residents are entitled to four weeks of vacation during PGY-III year. Residents must take vacation in two weeks blocks from September to May. Resident will have opportunity to take vacation one week at a time out of their four weeks vacation period, if they choose to do so.

On-call: The PGY-III residents will provide in house night float coverage as a consultant at our Grand Concourse division including Medical Emergency Room, Pediatric Emergency Room, inpatient Medical, Surgical, ICU and Ob and Gyn services. The coverage hours are limited to 11pm during the work week and until midnight on the weekends.

Didactics: Protected class time occurs on every Tuesday and Thursday from 12.30pm to 5.00pm from September to May, at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, Fulton division. Resident also will have protected time classes during June, July and August.
